A father revealed that his son, a pilot named Leandro Bertazzo, tragically jumped to his death from a plane during a training flight over Córdoba, Argentina. The 42-year-old instructor left his 22-year-old student to land the aircraft alone after telling her to “keep moving forward.” He unstrapped himself, removed his headset, gathered his belongings, and opened the aircraft door before jumping from the Cessna C-150.
The student initially thought he had deployed a parachute, but it became apparent that he had not. Bertazzo’s body was discovered in a field near where he exited the plane. Reports indicated that Bertazzo had been facing personal challenges, as he had visited a psychiatric hospital a week prior to the incident.
Despite the traumatic experience, the student received praise for safely landing the plane. Eduardo Alvarez, the flight school director, commended her professionalism and ability to return the aircraft to the airfield with a perfect landing. Alvarez described Bertazzo as a dedicated and cheerful professional who had shown no warning signs during routine assessments.
The investigation into the incident is being carried out by Argentina’s Federal Justice of Córdoba. For those in need of emotional support, the Samaritans helpline is available 24/7.
