A man who was fatally stabbed during an altercation on a commercial street has been identified and his image released to the public for the first time.
Michael John Edwards lost his life following an assault in Southwark. The 43-year-old resident of Nuneaton sustained severe injuries in an incident on Borough High Street in the early hours of Saturday, September 13. He passed away in the hospital four days later, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.
Authorities have initiated a homicide investigation into the case. Lewis Macleod, hailing from Sunderland, was formally accused of causing serious bodily harm and physical injury on Monday, September 15.
Macleod appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court and has been detained in custody. The Crown Prosecution Service will reassess the charges in light of Mr. Edwards’ demise.
Detective Inspector Andy Griffin, spearheading the inquiry, stated, “My team is swiftly delving into the complete circumstances surrounding Michael’s tragic demise. Cllr Natasha Ennin, responsible for Community Safety & Neighbourhoods at Southwark Council, expressed her profound sorrow over Michael Edwards’ passing and extended sympathy to his close circle in this trying time.
She added, “This was a heartbreaking incident, and we are collaborating with law enforcement to aid in the investigation and provide assistance to those impacted.”
