A pregnant music teacher, aged 33, has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child under 16. Naomi Tekea Craig, who is married, faces charges including sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, possession of child exploitation material, and persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16. The incidents are said to have taken place between 2024 and 2025.
Craig worked as a music teacher at Fredrick Irwin Anglican School in Mandurah, near Perth, Western Australia, during the alleged offenses. Parents and students regarded her as a popular teacher at the school.
Authorities are investigating the case, and the school’s principal, Tracey Gray, notified parents of Craig’s arrest. The school assured parents that the safety of their children remains a top priority and that there is no cause for concern regarding other students.
The police emphasized their commitment to protecting children and providing support for victims. Specialist detectives are actively working on the case. Craig is scheduled to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27.
Fredrick Irwin Anglican School offers a music program for year 8 students, with annual fees of $8,320 (£4,153) for older students. Craig, who is reported to be on maternity leave, is married. A former schoolmate described her as a fantastic music teacher and a friendly individual, expressing shock at the news.
