An 18-year-old pregnant woman has been paralyzed following a shooting incident during an armed robbery while she was meeting a person she had connected with on Snapchat.
Angel Jones, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time, suffered life-altering injuries from the shooting, resulting in premature labor. Doctors are working to prolong her pregnancy while uncertainty looms over her ability to walk again.
The incident occurred when Angel and her 19-year-old boyfriend met an individual they connected with on Snapchat in Toledo, Ohio. During the encounter, a man in black attire attempted to rob them at gunpoint, leading to a struggle where the boyfriend tried to defend against the assailant. In the scuffle, a gun was discharged, striking Angel and causing severe injuries that left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Although the bullet narrowly missed her unborn child, it caused significant damage to Angel’s arm, chest, and spinal cord. Her mother, Brandy Jones, shared the harrowing details of the shooting incident and praised Angel’s boyfriend for his courageous actions in trying to protect her.
Describing the extent of Angel’s injuries, Brandy explained that the bullet fractured her 12th vertebra, resulting in complete paralysis below the waist. The trauma forced Angel into premature labor, with doctors working tirelessly to delay the birth and provide intensive care to ensure the baby’s health.
As Angel faces the reality of paralysis, compounded by the stress of caring for her newborn from a wheelchair, the community has rallied to support her through a GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser aims to cover Angel’s medical expenses, necessary home modifications, and ongoing care, with additional funds set aside as a reward for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator.
