“Prepare for Busy Airports: Latest Arrival Guidelines for Overseas Trips”

Date:

With May approaching, families planning overseas trips should take note of the latest airport arrival guidelines provided by major airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, and TUI. Airports are anticipated to be busy during the school holiday season, and due to volatile jet fuel prices, travelers are advised to be extra vigilant for potential delays, increased queues, and sudden schedule adjustments.

While the regulations have largely remained consistent in recent months, certain airlines have specific instructions tailored for various passenger categories. Ryanair recommends arriving at the airport at least two hours prior to departure to allow ample time for check-in, baggage drop, and security screening. Additionally, passengers are required to be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Even if travelers have booked through an online travel agency, they must validate their booking at the airport and arrive at least two hours early. easyJet passengers are cautioned on their website about the potential congestion at airports during school holidays and are advised to factor in extra time for traffic, train disruptions, and queues.

The airline highlights that bag drop services at most UK airports close 40 minutes before departure, although certain airports and destinations may have earlier closure times, such as 60 minutes before departure. Moreover, easyJet offers Twilight bag drop services the evening before morning flights. For Jet2, it is recommended to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure, as the airline’s check-in desks typically open approximately two-and-a-half hours before flights.

Jet2 closes its check-in desks 40 minutes before departure, and passengers are encouraged to review the latest travel information page at least 12 hours before flying for any updates on delays or disruptions. Similar to other airlines, Jet2 also provides a Twilight Check-in service at select UK airports, allowing morning flight passengers to drop off their bags the night before.

TUI’s standard check-in opens at least 2.5 hours before short- and mid-haul flights, while for long-haul flights, passengers can check in 3.5 hours before departure. The company emphasizes that arriving earlier will not expedite security clearance. Travelers with only hand luggage who have checked in online can proceed directly to security upon airport arrival.

For group bookings with TUI, it is advised that only one member needs to go to the bag drop with all essential documents and luggage. General advice for all airlines includes keeping travel documents within easy reach, checking for flight updates online before heading to the airport, and preparing for longer queues during peak travel times such as the May half-term.
