Nigel Farage is under pressure to denounce the older members of his party after one of his MPs criticized the formation of an “LGBT supporting” coalition in the country.
Danny Kruger, who recently switched from the Conservative Party to Reform UK, expressed his concerns about a mix of left-wing parties, equating support for LGBT rights with endorsing Hamas in a video posted on Reform UK’s YouTube channel.
Critics have labeled Kruger’s comments as outdated and inappropriate, urging Farage to disavow them. This incident follows Reform’s Sarah Pochin making controversial statements about Black and Asian individuals in advertisements, prompting anger but not a direct condemnation from Farage.
During a membership rally for Reform UK, Kruger, the son of TV personality Prue Leith, warned of a potential future where a party supporting Hamas and LGBT causes could lead the UK. He highlighted the competition from various political factions like the Liberal Democrats, Labour, Greens, and nationalists in Wales and Scotland.
Kruger emphasized the need to prevent such a scenario by supporting Reform UK, even urging former Conservatives to join their cause. Polly Billington, a Labour MP, criticized Kruger’s divisive remarks, linking them to Reform’s tactics and the need for Farage to take a stand against such rhetoric.
Kruger failed to elaborate on his concerns regarding LGBT rights when pressed by the media, focusing on the perceived inconsistency of the opposing coalition. He emphasized the importance of voting for a sensible and moderate government, which he believes Reform represents.
This controversy involving Kruger comes on the heels of his previous contentious remarks in 2023 about marriage and societal norms. The recent focus on Reform UK’s members’ statements, including Pochin’s comments on diversity in advertising, has stirred debate across political circles.
While Farage expressed dissatisfaction with Pochin’s remarks, he stopped short of labeling them as racist, opting not to take severe action against her. Reform UK has been contacted regarding Kruger’s recent statements.
