Allegations of inappropriate behavior by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor towards a woman at the Royal Ascot event are currently under investigation by the police.
The incident supposedly took place in 2002 during the Royal Ascot event in Berkshire, which was attended by the late Queen Elizabeth II and other senior royals to mark her Golden Jubilee. It remains unclear whether the report on Andrew’s alleged misconduct was made known to authorities at the time or more recently, according to The Sunday Times.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) acknowledged that they are conducting an investigation into the former prince. A spokesperson for TVP informed the Mirror that they are exploring all reasonable leads but refrained from divulging specific details of the inquiry.
The ongoing investigation by the police force includes examining claims of sexual misconduct and potential wrongdoing in public office related to Andrew. They have also issued an appeal for witnesses to provide any relevant information. Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright urged individuals with knowledge to reach out through appropriate channels, such as the Thames Valley Police online portal.
Authorities at TVP are worried that the public perception focuses only on allegations concerning Andrew’s actions as a trade envoy, emphasizing that the scope of the investigation is broader and encompasses various offenses.
“Our inquiry into misconduct in public office is ongoing. This type of offense can manifest in different ways, making our investigation intricate,” stated the Assistant Chief Constable. The team of detectives handling the case is meticulously reviewing a substantial volume of information received from the public and other sources to pursue all leads diligently.
Andrew previously held the position of the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment from 2001 to 2011 until his resignation amid controversies surrounding his association with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Despite the accusations, Andrew has consistently refuted any allegations of misconduct.
On his 66th birthday, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and interrogated under caution before being released pending further investigation. Searches were conducted at his former residences in Windsor and Norfolk as part of the operation.
Investigators are sifting through evidence gathered during the search. They have also formally requested access to the original Epstein files from the United States Department of Justice but have not yet received any information in response.
