Prince Andrew has decided to remove the personalized Duke of York car plates from his luxury vehicles. The controversial Royal, aged 65, has opted not to transfer the registration plates AY02 DOY and AY03 DOY to his new £115,000 Range Rover. Records from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) indicate that these plates are no longer associated with any vehicle.
This move follows recent events where Andrew agreed to relinquish his Duke of York title after emails surfaced revealing inconsistencies regarding his contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Allegations from Virginia Giuffre in her posthumous memoir have also added to the prince’s troubles, although he maintains his innocence.
The Mirror has discovered that the AY02 DOY plate, previously affixed to his two dark green Range Rovers, is now inactive according to DVLA records. Last November, he sold one of the Range Rovers for £50,000 after minimal usage. Subsequently, Andrew purchased a new automatic Range Rover for £115,000, outfitting it with the plate KN74 EFK in place of the Duke of York plate. Additionally, the personalized plate AY03 DOY, displayed on his green £220,000 Bentley during Princess Beatrice’s daughter’s christening, can no longer be traced in DVLA records.
This development may prompt the disgraced Prince to reconsider using the DOY title across his properties, including instructions to staff regarding the arrangement of his cherished teddy bears and soft toys on his bed. Reports suggest that staff meticulously outlined the teddy bear positioning to prevent bedtime “tantrums,” with laminated directives titled “DOY bed: Points for turn down & making the bed” placed near Andrew’s Buckingham Palace bedroom.
Last Friday, Andrew announced his voluntary surrender of titles and membership in the Order of the Garter amidst mounting pressure due to his association with Epstein. Discussions are reportedly underway for Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 66, to vacate their 30-bedroom Windsor residence. Andrew seeks a residence on the Windsor Estate, reportedly eyeing Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, while Sarah has shown interest in Adelaide Cottage, formerly owned by Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Recent claims suggest that Prince William warned Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of potential title removal if Andrew does not vacate Royal Lodge. Allegedly, Prince Charles urged the princesses to persuade their father to relocate. However, Prince Andrew’s office declined to comment on these reports.
