Prince Harry, along with his family, is set to reside at a royal establishment during their upcoming visit to the UK due to concerns for their safety.
The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to participate in the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. After a six-month review of his request for state-funded security, the decision has been finalized without informing Harry.
A source close to the Duke mentioned his growing frustration with the prolonged process and how he had to adjust his stance. Initially promised a quick decision, over half a year has passed. Determined to be in the UK for the Invictus event, Harry has opted to accept the offer of accommodation at a royal residence, deeming it adequate.
Harry, aged 41, will travel with his wife Meghan and their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five. He has previously expressed concerns about the safety of his homeland.
Despite declining previous offers to stay at a royal residence during solo visits to the UK after stepping back from his royal duties in 2020, the family is now expected to lodge at Buckingham Palace for their forthcoming trip.
Having lost legal battles to retain police protection in the UK, Harry made an appeal to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood citing ongoing safety threats despite distancing himself from the monarchy. This visit marks the first time the family will be in the UK together since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Sources close to the Sussexes revealed that the Duchess is highly interested in the Invictus Games and was eager to visit Birmingham with Harry. The Duke has been in a prolonged legal dispute with the British government over the removal of taxpayer-funded security following his relocation to the United States in 2020.
