Prince Harry has revealed the location for the upcoming Invictus Games following a successful visit to the UK to promote the 2027 event. In a new development, Harry has announced that the 2029 Invictus Games will be held in Daejeon, South Korea, marking the first time the event will take place in Asia. As the founder of the Invictus Games, Harry expressed his delight at selecting Daejeon as the host for the 2029 Games in a statement released on Monday.
The decision to bring the Games to South Korea represents a milestone for the Invictus Movement, aiming to provide more opportunities for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans to benefit from the supportive community and power of sports. The event is scheduled to take place from October 6 to 15, 2029, at the Daejeon Convention Centre in Yuseong-gu, with 550 competitors from 26 nations participating in 12 sports alongside 1,100 family members and friends.
Lord Allen, chair of the Invictus Games Foundation, emphasized the significance of choosing Daejeon as the host for the 2029 Games, highlighting the importance of expanding the reach of the Invictus community to support service personnel and veterans worldwide. Harry, who founded the Invictus Games in London in 2014, aims to challenge perceptions of disability, promote adaptive sports, and showcase the resilience of wounded individuals.
During his recent visit to the UK, Prince Harry participated in various sports activities at the One Year To Go ceremony, including pickleball and wheelchair rugby, alongside former minister Al Carns and TV personality Alison Hammond. The 2027 Games will introduce new events, including pickleball, reflecting the ongoing growth and inclusivity of the Invictus Games.
