This encounter marked Harry’s first face-to-face interaction with Charles since February 2024.
Despite his strained relationships within the Royal Family following his relocation to the United States, Harry refuted claims from The Sun that he found the meeting with the King unexpectedly formal. The reports indicated that the atmosphere was notably official, leading Harry to humorously remark that he felt like an official guest at the royal residence.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry dismissed the alleged views attributed to him as completely fabricated and likely intended to hinder any reconciliation efforts between father and son. The spokesperson confirmed the exchange of gifts, mentioning that a framed photo was presented, although it did not feature the Duke and Duchess.
In response, a representative from The Sun acknowledged the gift exchange, including the family photo. They defended the accuracy of their account of the meeting as well-sourced and promptly updated their online article to include Harry’s rebuttal.
During the meeting at Clarence House, Harry and Charles exchanged gifts and shared a kiss on the cheek. Harry gifted his father the framed photograph, while King Charles presented Harry with a birthday gift, as Harry was soon to turn 41. Despite not seeing Archie and Lilibet since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 due to safety concerns, Harry expressed his enduring love for the UK in a recent interview with The Guardian.
While speculations arose about Harry potentially resuming royal duties in a part-time capacity, it seems unlikely as there is currently no indication of his return to official royal responsibilities.
