Catherine Ommanney, a former romantic interest of Prince Harry, has responded to allegations that she departed a hotel in Majorica without settling her bill, attributing the incident to a “technical error.”
Ommanney, aged 53, was taken into custody on suspicion of fraud following accusations by the management of the three-star Playas del Rey Hotel that she had not paid her bill amounting to nearly £450. During her nine-day stay at the hotel, she accumulated a charge of €500 (£434) and allegedly provided a credit card with insufficient funds, according to investigators.
Nevertheless, she rebuffed claims of non-payment, labeling them as unfounded. She stated, “The bill was settled. I possess evidence that the bill was completely paid. This issue arose due to a mistake on the part of the hotel, and I intend to seek redress through legal channels.”
Speaking to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, Ommanney described Sunday as a “nightmarish day,” attributing the discrepancy to a clerical error. She clarified, “The bill was cleared through a bank transfer – the hotel does not accept credit cards. Sunday was the most dreadful day of my life. I certainly did not appreciate being detained in a holiday cell.”
She was photographed with a Civil Guard officer around 7 pm the prior day, leaving her court holding cell to attend a closed-door hearing in Palma, the capital. Reportedly, she used a previous surname in court due to a past marriage.
Following an ongoing investigation, she was released on bail. It remains unclear whether she presented her case in court today to explain the circumstances. When approached for comment, her legal representative stated that without her authorization, they would not be commenting on the media reports regarding her arrest.
A receptionist at the Playas del Rey Hotel in Santa Ponsa mentioned that no one was available for comment when contacted by the press. Ommanney refrained from making any statements immediately after her release, and the location of her arrest is still unknown.
Ommanney, an interior designer and one of the original main cast members of the Real Housewives of DC, disclosed in 2022 an alleged brief relationship with the Duke of Sussex in 2006, mentioning their meeting at Chelsea’s Art Bar. At the time, she was a 34-year-old mother of two, while Harry was 21. The authenticity of their alleged relationship has never been confirmed by Harry.
Reflecting on their acquaintance, Ommanney shared with the Sun, “I believe he valued my company because of my maturity and wisdom, unlike the young women he was usually surrounded by. He seemed to be searching for a deeper, more meaningful connection with someone experienced, which is perhaps why he found me intriguing. The age disparity was insignificant to me as I offered him a listening ear and guidance.”
