Pub’s Sunday Lunch Causes Severe Food Poisoning

Date:

Families have reported experiencing severe food poisoning symptoms after consuming Sunday lunch at a well-liked pub.

Customers dining at The Cwrt Henllys Bar and Restaurant in Cwmbran, South Wales, fell ill shortly after partaking in a roast dinner on October 5. One pregnant individual described waking up in the middle of the night feeling extremely unwell, with intense stomach cramps that made her fear a miscarriage.

Health officials have confirmed that tests conducted on samples from 19 affected individuals revealed the presence of clostridium perfringens, a harmful organism known to cause severe food poisoning.

According to a statement from Torfaen Council, investigations into the reported illnesses linked to dining at the Cwrt Henllys Hotel revealed the cause to be clostridium perfringens. No additional cases of illness have been reported following the incident, indicating no broader public health risk.

Clostridium perfringens, a bacteria commonly found in animals and the environment, typically affects humans when consuming contaminated meat or poultry that has been inadequately stored. The Food Standards Agency warns that this bacteria can survive cooking and grow during improper cooling and storage, leading to foodborne illness outbreaks, especially in large group settings or during batch cooking at home.

The Mirror has reached out to the Cwrt Henllys Bar and Restaurant for their response to the situation.
