Qatar Airways has announced a temporary suspension of its flight operations due to the closure of Qatari airspace. However, the airline will be conducting limited ‘relief flights’ to support affected passengers.
The closure of airspaces across the Middle East was triggered by joint strikes from Israel and the United States on key sites in Iran, leading to retaliatory actions from Iran affecting various countries in the region. Qatar Airways stated that it will resume normal operations once the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority declares the safe reopening of Qatari airspace.
The airline plans to provide an update by 9 am Doha time on Friday, March 6. Additionally, Qatar Airways will start operating a few relief flights from March 5 to assist stranded passengers. These flights will include services from Muscat to London Heathrow, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome, and Amsterdam, as well as a flight from Riyadh to Frankfurt.
Affected passengers are advised not to proceed to the airport unless they receive official notifications from Qatar Airways regarding these flights. The airline will directly contact passengers with specific flight details, travel arrangements, and further guidance.
Qatar Airways emphasized the importance of keeping contact details up to date for receiving flight information and instructions promptly, which can be done through the airline’s website or mobile app. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the temporary airspace closure and thanked passengers for their understanding, ensuring that passenger and crew safety remain the top priority.
