“Reform Candidate Faces Backlash for Homophobic Remarks”

Date:

Reform’s candidate in the upcoming by-election has come under fire for alleged homophobic remarks made on an account associated with him. The comments, including derogatory terms towards gay individuals, were reportedly found in archived posts on a now-defunct rugby league forum called RLFans.

Robert Kenyon, who is running against Labour’s Andy Burnham in Makerfield, has been linked to an account under the username ‘post,’ which references his former X handle @robkenyon1 and promotes his novel, “Blood Waltz.”

One of the posts from 2009, shared with The Mirror, contained a derogatory remark about the Queen and individuals of a certain sexual orientation. In subsequent posts, the account expressed negative views on the portrayal of homosexuals in the media and criticized initiatives like ‘Pride Day’ at sporting events.

Labour chair Anna Turley condemned Kenyon’s remarks, calling them divisive and urging Nigel Farage to address the issue. However, a spokesperson for Reform UK dismissed the criticism, stating that the comments were made long before Kenyon entered politics and expressing full support for him.

Kenyon is also facing backlash for other controversial statements made on the same platform, including comments about abortion and Brexit. Despite the controversies, Reform UK stands by Kenyon, emphasizing his commitment to representing Makerfield effectively.

The situation has escalated further with demands for an apology from Kenyon by public figures like Carol Vorderman, who was targeted in disparaging remarks. Kenyon’s past remarks have triggered renewed scrutiny and debate over his suitability for public office.
