Ronnie O’Sullivan Issues Ultimatum to Snooker Authorities

Renowned snooker player, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has sent a clear message to global snooker governing bodies, stating that he will only participate in events if the financial rewards meet his expectations. The seven-time world champion emphasized that he values his worth and will prioritize lucrative opportunities when deciding on his tournament appearances.

O’Sullivan’s stance comes in the aftermath of the sudden cancellation of the Saudi Arabia Masters, a prestigious event with a significant prize pool of £2.3 million, just two years into a long-term agreement. Notably, O’Sullivan also operates a Snooker Academy in Riyadh, underscoring his financial considerations in choosing where to compete.

In a candid statement, O’Sullivan asserted, “I have a standard requirement for appearance fees at any tournament I attend. Whether it’s in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, or elsewhere, financial compensation plays a crucial role in my decision-making process. Without meeting my terms, I will not commit to participating.”

When questioned about the potential impact on his Academy, O’Sullivan remained composed, expressing his readiness to explore alternative options. While expressing hope for future collaborations with Saudi Arabia, he maintained that his choices would be guided by prevailing circumstances.

Known for his selective approach to tournament participation in recent years, O’Sullivan reiterated that his involvement hinges on sponsor support. He emphasized his commitment to enjoying the game and hinted at the possibility of taking breaks if needed, emphasizing his independence from being solely dedicated to snooker.

Following his recent exit from the World Championship at the hands of John Higgins, O’Sullivan reflected on the defeat with a positive outlook, highlighting his ability to handle setbacks with resilience. Despite the loss, he expressed satisfaction with his performance and signaled his intent to continue competing.

Looking ahead, O’Sullivan revealed plans to return to Ireland before making a prompt comeback to Sheffield for the upcoming World Seniors Championship at the Crucible. Balancing work commitments with personal downtime, he acknowledged the financial responsibilities that come with his career.

In a separate development, Sky has enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports package, offering an extensive range of content including HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, and Hayu, alongside comprehensive sports coverage featuring the Premier League and EFL matches.

Sky’s extensive broadcasting portfolio comprises over 1,400 live matches spanning the Premier League, EFL, Formula 1, darts, and golf, ensuring a diverse viewing experience for sports enthusiasts.
