A woman returned home to a horrifying scene as she found her roommate allegedly attempting to push her child out of a window and then trying to drown the five-year-old. The woman, identified as Karen Garcia, had entrusted her two children, aged five and 11, to Vira Zabudko, a 41-year-old who shared the same apartment with them.
Upon her return, Garcia encountered resistance from Zabudko, who refused her entry into the apartment. Eventually gaining access, Garcia discovered Zabudko forcing the five-year-old towards the window through a screen. A confrontation ensued, during which Zabudko instructed the child to cleanse himself in the shower to purify his sins, insisting the mother do the same.
Fortunately, Garcia managed to escape the situation with her children, all of them drenched when the authorities located them. The district attorney of Fayette County, Michael Aubele, expressed concern over the incident, noting Zabudko’s statement about washing away the child’s sins.
Zabudko faces charges of aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful restraint, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault. After being booked at the Fayette County Jail and posting bond, Zabudko is scheduled to appear in court on April 9. This incident follows a recent case where a teenage babysitter received a life sentence for the death of a nine-year-old boy under his care.
