Royal Mail Fined £21M for Missing Delivery Targets

Date:

Royal Mail’s struggle to meet first class post delivery targets has been highlighted, with all 124 postcode areas in the UK falling short of the 90% next-day delivery goal. Regions like Paisley, Blackburn, Burnley, Hull, and others have experienced delays, with Paisley recording only 62.7% on-time deliveries.

Despite a significant increase in the price of first-class stamps to £1.80 last month, Royal Mail faced a fine of £21 million from Ofcom for missing delivery targets. The company aims to enhance its postal services with a £500 million investment, including changes like discontinuing Saturday second-class mail delivery.

Royal Mail plans to improve next-day delivery rates to 85% within nine months and reach the 90% target within a year. Additionally, the company aims to deliver 93% of second-class letters within three days and achieve a 95% delivery rate by May next year. Royal Mail acknowledges past service shortcomings and is committed to enhancing reliability and efficiency for customers nationwide.
