Russia Accuses Britain of GRU General Shooting

Date:

Russia has accused Britain of being involved in the shooting of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, the deputy head of Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency, who was attacked in Moscow on February 6. Despite being seriously injured, Alekseyev is expected to recover.

The head of Russia’s counterintelligence alleged that Ukrainian special services, with British supervision, orchestrated the attack. However, no concrete evidence implicating Britain was provided.

The director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) stated that measures are being taken in response to the incident, emphasizing that those responsible will face consequences. Alekseyev had previously been associated with the 2018 Novichok poisoning in Salisbury.

The security breach involving a senior military figure has raised concerns in Russia, with two suspects arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack. A third suspect is reported to have fled to Ukraine.
