Data from the flight tracking platform Flightradar24 showed the plane circling above Manchester Airport and then Lancashire before heading north to Newcastle, where it eventually landed successfully on the first try. Flightradar24 confirmed the diversion after multiple landing attempts, citing the pilot’s report of showers and gusty winds.
Severe weather conditions have prompted a 15-hour weather alert across Britain today, with wind gusts of up to 70mph predicted. In a similar incident earlier, an easyJet flight bound for Edinburgh was redirected to Manchester due to turbulent weather conditions exceeding safe limits. Passengers were provided coach transportation back to Edinburgh.
Scotland is currently under a yellow wind weather warning until 8pm, with gusts of 50-55mph expected in Scotland and England. Coastal areas and regions near elevated terrain may experience gusts up to 60-70mph in isolated locations.
An easyJet spokesperson mentioned that the flight diversion to Manchester was necessary due to winds exceeding safe limits, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers and crew. Weather conditions have caused inconvenience, and the airline has arranged alternative transportation for affected passengers.
