“Ryanair Warns of Extended Airport Queues for UK Families”

Date:

Ryanair issues a stern statement warning of extended queues for UK families at various airports due to ongoing chaos with the EU Entry/Exit System (EES). The low-cost airline advocates for an emergency extension and more flexibility in EES implementation to prevent long waits during the peak summer holiday season. Passengers, regardless of airline, are likely to face delays according to Ryanair.

The airline cautioned millions of UK families planning European summer trips to brace for prolonged passport lines and airport disruptions caused by the flawed EES system. With schools closing for summer and passenger numbers surging, the EES issues are expected to lead to unnecessary delays and congested queues for UK travelers.

Ryanair identified several EES trouble spots where passengers are encountering significant delays due to slow processing and lengthy passport control queues on both arrivals and departures. These problematic airports include popular destinations like Lanzarote, Tenerife South, Alicante, Malaga, Milan, and Verona.

Highlighting the lack of functioning self-service kiosks and insufficient border staffing levels at many airports even months after the EES launch, Ryanair emphasized the resulting avoidable delays and stress for passengers during the busy holiday season.

For families embarking on holidays to non-Schengen destinations or transiting through affected European airports, Ryanair advised allowing extra time for their journey and preparing for extended waits at passport control, where EES checks may involve passport scanning, fingerprint capture, and facial image verification.

Neal McMahon, Ryanair’s chief operations officer, expressed concern about families being burdened with long queues instead of enjoying their vacations. He called for urgent extensions to EES flexibilities to allow airports and border authorities to enhance infrastructure and hire more staff for seamless travel across Europe.
