Santiago de Compostela Airport Temporarily Closes for Maintenance

Date:

Santiago de Compostela Airport in Spain has announced a temporary closure for maintenance, affecting all flights from April 23 to May 27. The closure will impact thousands of travelers, including Brits flying to popular destinations like Barcelona and Madrid.

With airlines like Vueling and Ryanair operating at the airport, around 4,500 British passengers could face disruptions due to the closure. The airport operator, Aena, confirmed the closure is necessary for runway resurfacing works and advised passengers to contact their airlines for flight updates or rebooking options.

During the closure period, travelers can opt for alternative airports nearby, such as A Coruña Airport located approximately 42 miles north or Vigo Airport about 61 miles south of Santiago de Compostela. These airports offer connections to various destinations, providing travel alternatives for affected passengers.

Santiago de Compostela, renowned for its historic architecture and as the endpoint of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, is a UNESCO World Heritage site in northwest Spain. Travelers planning trips to the region during the closure period are advised to make necessary arrangements to avoid travel disruptions.
