“Scottish Widows Launches App to Locate Lost Pension Funds”

Date:

Scottish Widows has introduced a new tool to aid individuals in locating misplaced pension funds. In the UK, there are approximately 3.3 million unaccounted pension pots valued at a collective £31.1 billion. Common reasons for losing track of pensions include frequent job changes and neglecting to update personal information after moving. To address this issue, Scottish Widows has collaborated with fintech partner The Pension Lab to unveil a new service accessible through their app.

Users can input their National Insurance number and relevant details such as past employers, pension providers, and active years once logged into the app. Subsequently, customers must digitally authorize The Pension Lab to contact providers on their behalf to locate their pension pots. Upon identification, individuals can choose to retain their pensions where they are or opt for consolidation.

Before making significant decisions regarding pension funds, individuals are advised to seek free pension advice. MoneyHelper offers guidance on retirement savings options. Chira Barua, CEO at Scottish Widows, emphasized the importance of reuniting people with their scattered pensions to improve retirement outcomes. The company aims to simplify pension tracing and consolidation through its user-friendly app, catering to the increasing demand for digital financial management tools.

In addition to the Pension Tracing Service, a government tool aiding in pension retrieval by providing provider contact details based on employment history, a new pensions dashboard tool is set to launch this year. This dashboard will enable individuals to access and manage all their pension information in one centralized platform. By October 31, 2026, all pension schemes are required to be integrated into the dashboard for comprehensive accessibility.
