Prince Harry is set to travel to the UK in a few days to commemorate the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Originally, he planned to bring his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet, along for the trip. However, uncertainties regarding his security arrangements have now cast doubt on the family’s travel plans.
In preparation for his UK visit, Prince Harry made an official request for police protection, a customary procedure when he returns to the country. Reports suggest that his request has been turned down for this upcoming trip, raising concerns about the presence of Meghan and their children as initially intended.
With the status of his security detail still uncertain, royal editor Russell Myers from the Mirror highlighted that Prince Harry may have preempted his trip planning pending a review by the Home Office. Despite waiting for a decision from the Risk Management Board (RMB) under the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), Prince Harry recently learned that the review process has not yet taken place.
Russell pointed out that it might have been premature for Prince Harry to arrange a family visit to the UK without clarity on his police protection status. The ongoing uncertainty has left Prince Harry in a difficult position as he strives to ensure the safety of his family during the planned trip.
Expressing frustration over the situation, a spokesperson for Prince Harry mentioned that they are exploring all options to facilitate a safe visit. The spokesperson emphasized the importance of an independent assessment to maintain the adequacy of the current security arrangements.
Following his decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 and relocate to the US with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has been advocating for reinstatement of his UK security. Citing safety concerns, he has been insistent that his family cannot visit the UK without appropriate police protection. The Duke continues to pursue avenues to enable a secure visit and create an opportunity for his children to experience the UK.
The Duke of Sussex is facing challenges in finalizing his travel plans due to the unresolved security issues, causing distress and uncertainty regarding the trip.
