“Shocking Audio Feature in TikTok Toy Raises Concerns”

Date:

A relative purchased a baby toy for his one-year-old nephew on TikTok and was shocked to discover that the toy spoke 10 unsettling words. Aaron Green, from Wythenshawe, bought the jellyfish toy for £8.62 in October, intending it as a Christmas gift.

The toy was advertised as an ‘electric dancing jellyfish toy’ with LED lights and music features. Despite no mention of audio capabilities in the product description, the toy unexpectedly vocalized the phrase: “Live audio now being transmitted to data center for analysis.”

After this unexpected discovery, TikTok is investigating the product, and the listing has been removed from the platform. Aaron expressed concern over the toy’s unexpected behavior, mentioning that it made him feel uneasy. Despite being a cheap toy, it raised suspicions about its actual functions, especially considering its origin from a toy factory in China.

TikTok has not confirmed whether the toy could record audio but emphasized their commitment to customer safety. They have temporarily removed the product from their platform for a thorough investigation. Customers are reminded to stay vigilant when purchasing products online, even if they seem inexpensive.
