“Sky Q Shifts Focus to Internet-Based Products Amid Landscape Change”

Date:

Sky Q, a leading set-top box known for its exceptional features, is undergoing a shift in focus by Sky towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move signals a potential change in the landscape for those who value traditional recording methods.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a new device that shares similarities with Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing ample TV content, films, and sports, this device offers a rare option for physical recordings in a digital age.

The Aura EZ stands out not just for its recording capabilities but also for being powered by Freely, enabling live TV viewing over broadband. With over 60 live channels and an extensive library of on-demand content, the device offers flexibility in usage, ease of installation, and regular updates.

Featuring 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a user-friendly TV guide for program scheduling, the Aura EZ allows remote control via a dedicated smartphone app for added convenience.

Despite lacking premium sports and movie channels, Freely is a free-to-use platform without subscription fees, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional TV services.

Scheduled for a February 2026 release in the UK at £249, the Humax Aura EZ launch coincides with Sky’s unveiling of a new subscription bundle. Priced at £24 per month, the bundle combines popular services like Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and upcoming HBO Max, providing a comprehensive entertainment package. Additionally, subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will gain access to over 130 premium channels, including specialized genres like Sky Comedy and Sky Documentaries.

Sky Cinema customers will also enjoy a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide, enhancing their viewing experience within the subscription package. The £24 bundle encompasses Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (effective March 26), Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
