“Snow and Ice Cause Airport Chaos, Stranding Passengers”

Date:

Passengers are reporting being stranded on the runway at a busy airport due to disruptions caused by snow and ice. Significant delays are being experienced, with only one de-icer truck operational at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Numerous flights have been delayed or canceled, including a Barcelona-bound flight originally scheduled for 7:40 am, now rescheduled for departure around 4 pm. Frustrated passengers on a Jet2 flight to Paris have been stuck for 6 hours due to ice-related delays, exacerbated by the airport’s limited de-icing resources.

A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport confirmed that the airport has been functioning normally despite delays caused by adverse weather conditions. Passengers are advised to check directly with their airlines for updated flight information.

In a previous incident last year, Leeds Bradford Airport’s runways were closed for nine hours due to an unforeseen problem. The airport, serving around five million passengers annually, typically operates flights around the clock.

During the previous disruption, the airport urged customers to check with their airlines for the latest information and emphasized that passenger safety and comfort are top priorities. Airport staff were available to address passenger queries about departures.
