“Snow to Hit UK This Weekend Amid Autumn Cold Snap”

Date:

Snow is expected to descend in parts of the UK this weekend as temperatures drop during a cold spell in autumn. According to a new weather map from WXCharts, snowflakes are predicted to fall in several regions of Scotland on Sunday morning, including towns in Argyll and Bute, Sterling, Perth and Kinross, North Ayrshire, and Inverclyde.

In contrast, the north of England and Northern Ireland are likely to experience rain, while the south is expected to have a drier outlook. Despite summer-like conditions returning on Friday, with highs of 25C-26C in parts of southern England, including London, snow is on the horizon.

Temperatures are set to reach a maximum of 19C in Edinburgh, 21C in Manchester and Cardiff, and 17C in Belfast on the same day. However, the warm weather is not here to stay, as daytime temperatures are projected to decrease to the low-to-mid teens across the UK by the end of the weekend, dropping to single digits at night.

Although snowfall in Scotland in mid-September has occurred in the past, recent milder conditions have made this occurrence less frequent. The average daytime temperature for September is typically around 16C, compared to 19C in England.

Moreover, significant rainfall is also expected over the weekend, with the Met Office forecasting unsettled weather with strong winds and rain spells. The outlook for next week suggests wetter conditions persisting, with a north-south divide in terms of weather patterns.

The long-range forecast from the Met Office for September 22 to October 1 indicates a likelihood of continued wet conditions, with the north and northwest potentially experiencing drier spells while rain or showers are expected in southern and eastern areas. As temperatures gradually return to average, the weather may become more settled, although coastal showers could still occur.

While a more changeable weather pattern may return later in the period, uncertainties remain regarding future weather trends.
