“Stand up to Racism Condemns Hate Amid Henry Nowak Tragedy”

Date:

Stand up to Racism has strongly criticized individuals who are promoting hateful messages in the wake of the tragic killing of Henry Nowak.

The Anti-racist organization expressed sympathy for the family of 18-year-old Henry and condemned the alleged mishandling by Hampshire police officers during his arrest. This reaction comes after Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years for fatally stabbing Henry on December 3, 2025.

Various far-right figures in the UK and internationally have capitalized on the outrage surrounding Henry’s death. Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, entered the discussion by implying that the rights of white people are undervalued compared to ethnic minorities in a “two-tier Britain.”

A demonstration against the police turned violent in Southampton following Henry’s death, prompting Stand up to Racism to issue a statement.

The message shared on Instagram conveyed condolences to Henry Nowak’s family, highlighting the shocking and tragic bodycam footage and police failures. It also expressed concern over known fascists and far-right activists exploiting the incident to spread hatred and division within communities.

Farage’s call for a strong response was criticized for exploiting the tragedy to advance his divisive political objectives. The statement warned against allowing far-right elements to sow discord and propagate racist ideologies.

Over 1,000 protesters gathered at Southampton Central Police station to protest the handling of Henry’s arrest, chanting slogans against the police. The initially peaceful march turned chaotic as demonstrators hurled objects at law enforcement officers in riot gear.

Despite the initial intent of honoring Henry’s memory, the demonstration escalated into clashes with the police, with officers eventually retreating from the confrontational line.

Law enforcement faced projectiles and aggression from the crowd, necessitating the deployment of riot shields to maintain control. A police helicopter monitored the situation as officers encountered resistance in their efforts to disperse the crowd.
