Starmer Slams Farage’s UK Residency Proposal

Date:

Keir Starmer has criticized Nigel Farage’s proposal to eliminate indefinite leave to remain in the UK, stating that it would cause significant division in the country. The Prime Minister strongly condemned Reform UK’s contentious plans, labeling them as one of Nigel Farage’s most alarming ideas. He expressed his concerns while engaging with students at the Liverpool Echo office before the Labour Party Conference.

Addressing the potential impact on hundreds of thousands of individuals, the Prime Minister highlighted that these people have long been part of British society, contributing through various roles such as in hospitals, schools, businesses, and as neighbors. The suggestion by Reform UK to deport them under certain circumstances was deemed divisive and destructive to the core values of tolerance and coexistence in Britain.

During the interaction with school pupils, the Prime Minister lamented the prevalence and acceptance of such divisive politics in today’s world. The students from Lord Derby Academy, The Heath School, and Ellesmere Port Church of England College posed questions during the session. Initially, the PM discussed and responded to inquiries regarding the recently introduced Hillsborough Law, which mandates public servants and authorities to operate with honesty, transparency, and truthfulness, or face legal consequences.

In a separate discussion, Mr. Starmer was asked about the potential legalization of cannabis by his government, to which he firmly responded in the negative. The PM humorously gestured towards the students, implying that some might have favored the idea if not for the cameras present, but reiterated the government’s stance against such a move.

The event included various engaging sessions and discussions, offering insights into key political matters and initiatives.
