Steve Wright, a 67-year-old serial killer known as the ‘Suffolk Strangler,’ has been found guilty of murdering teenager Victoria Hall in Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, over 25 years ago. He pleaded guilty to one count of murder and one count of kidnap related to Victoria Hall, as well as another charge of attempted kidnap involving a 22-year-old woman the night before Victoria’s abduction.
Wright is already serving a whole life term for the murders of five women in the Ipswich area between October and December 2006. The victims were Tania Nicol, Gemma Adams, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell, and Annette Nicholls.
Recently, Steve Wright’s younger brother, Keith, expressed concerns about potential undiscovered victims. Keith emphasized the importance of his brother cooperating with the police to reveal the full extent of his crimes. He urged Steve to come forward and disclose the truth about any additional victims.
During the trial, details emerged about Victoria Hall’s disappearance in September 1999. She was last seen alive in Trimley St Mary after a night out at a nightclub in Felixstowe. Tragically, Victoria was attacked just yards away from her home after separating from her friend in the early hours of the morning.
Suffolk Police reopened the investigation in September 2019, leading to Wright’s arrest in July 2021. Subsequently, he was rearrested in December 2023, charged in May 2024, and eventually admitted to the murder. The case was further complicated by the passing of Victoria’s mother before her daughter’s killer could be brought to justice.
The guilty pleas followed a legal ruling allowing jurors to be informed of Wright’s previous murder convictions. Prosecutors highlighted similarities in the crimes, noting the method of asphyxiation and the locations where the victims were found.
Steve Wright is awaiting sentencing at the Central Criminal Court, with the court proceedings expected to conclude on Friday.
