“Sugar Tower Bridge Replica Unveiled in London”

Date:

A massive sculpture resembling London’s famous Tower Bridge has been unveiled, constructed entirely out of sugar. This impressive piece, replicating one of the UK’s most renowned landmarks, required more than 25kg of sugar to assemble, amounting to nearly 100,000 calories. In contrast to the original bridge that took eight years to build, this intricate sugar replica took over 150 hours to complete, featuring intricate details like the two towers and the open-air walkway.

The sugar sculpture, towering at almost two-and-a-half-feet in height, showcases meticulously crafted windows, doors, and suspension rods. Renowned artist Michelle Wibowo meticulously studied the architecture of bascule and suspension bridges, sketched various design elements, and then brought to life this beloved bridge.

Commissioned by Kellogg’s for its ‘Reductive Art Exhibition – a story of salt and sugar,’ the sculpture highlights the company’s efforts in reducing salt and sugar content by 18% and 23%, respectively, in its cereals over the past decade. Wibowo expressed her excitement about participating in an exhibition featuring artworks made solely from salt and sugar, emphasizing the intriguing history of Tower Bridge’s design. She hopes visitors will appreciate the intricate details of the sculpture and recognize similarities to the actual bridge.

The exhibition, set to take place in London and Paris, will commence on September 8th and 9th at gallery@oxo. This unique showcase will feature a diverse collection of sugar and salt sculptures, salt sketches, and salt animations created by well-known artists including Quentin Devine, Gala Bell, Bashir Sultani, and Tim Simpson. A spokesperson from Kellogg’s emphasized the brand’s dedication to promoting healthier breakfast choices and highlighted the success of their recipe improvements, reducing salt and sugar without compromising the delicious taste that consumers love.
