The family of a young boy who was thrown from a viewing platform at the Tate Modern art gallery shared that he has been discharged from the hospital with a renewed sense of happiness.
The incident took place in August 2019 when the French child, aged six at the time, was gravely injured in an assault by a teenager named Jonty Bravery at the London gallery. Despite surviving a 100ft fall, the boy sustained severe injuries, including a brain bleed and multiple fractures.
After nearly seven years, the family, affectionately calling him “notre petit chevalier” – our little knight, provided an update on a GoFundMe page stating that he briefly returned to school before the summer break. They expressed joy over his return to school, where tailored lessons helped him reengage with learning, bringing a smile back to his face.
Although facing setbacks earlier in his recovery journey, the latest update from the family is much more positive. The GoFundMe initiative, initiated by nurse Vicky Diplacto, aims to cover the boy’s medical expenses and has raised over £500,000.
The young boy is currently undergoing rigorous rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and neuropsychology sessions. As a celebration of his hospital discharge, his family has planned a tandem paragliding adventure and a seaside retreat with friends for him.
Additionally, he is eager to resume adaptive swimming lessons and receive math tutoring to catch up on missed schooling. The family looks forward to a busy but fulfilling summer ahead, aiming to rejuvenate before the upcoming school year and return to a semblance of normal family life.
The perpetrator, Bravery, now 24, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years after pleading guilty to attempted murder for the attack. Subsequently, he received a 16-week jail term for assaulting two nurses at a psychiatric hospital in 2024 and a 14-week sentence in 2020 for similar offenses.
