“Suspect Storms Hotel Lobby at White House Correspondents’ Dinner”

Date:

A video has surfaced capturing the moment a suspect was observed sprinting through the hotel lobby during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner before being apprehended by secret service agents.

The individual identified as Cole Tomas Allen, aged 31 and hailing from Torrance, California, was armed with firearms and knives when he entered the Washington Hilton on a Saturday evening.

A video shared by Donald Trump on Truth Social depicted the suspect bypassing security barriers as secret service agents swiftly moved in his direction.

Although one officer sustained a gunshot in a bulletproof vest, the assailant was subdued without injury and is currently under evaluation at a medical facility, according to authorities.

Allen has been apprehended and is now facing charges related to firearms, including assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon.

The suspect, reported to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton where the dinner took place, has been taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Authorities believe he acted independently in the shooting incident but have not disclosed his target or motive.

Donald Trump emerged unharmed and was quickly escorted off stage. Secret service agents, including the heavily armed counter assault team, swiftly secured the area following the occurrence.

Vice President JD Vance was evacuated first, while agents shielded Trump initially before escorting him and first lady Melania Trump out of the venue. Trump, with assistance from his security detail, momentarily stumbled while exiting the stage.

Following the incident, Trump was temporarily held in the secure presidential suite at the hotel as organizers and officials attempted to resume the event. Eventually, Trump was advised by the secret service to return to the White House.

In a statement at the White House two hours later, Trump, still in his formal attire, remarked, “When you’re impactful, they go after you. When you’re not impactful, they leave you alone.” He also mentioned that the suspect appeared to have acted alone.

The shooting incident occurred just outside the large underground ballroom where the dinner guests were gathered, causing a disruption shortly after the event began. This annual occasion, meant to celebrate journalism and freedom of speech, drew heightened attention this year as it marked Trump’s first attendance since assuming the presidency.

Trump expressed hope that the event could be rescheduled within 30 days, although questions arose immediately regarding the security measures in place at an event attended annually by senior government officials, given that an armed individual managed to approach the ballroom area.
