A 54-year-old man named Anthony Redmond, residing in Fort Austin Avenue, Plymouth, has been convicted of engaging in sexual activities with two underage students, including an incident that took place inside a school cupboard. The verdict was reached after a trial at Plymouth Crown Court following an investigation by authorities. The offenses occurred in the 2000s when Redmond worked as a geography teacher at a school in Plymouth.
Redmond faced multiple charges, including five counts of abusing his position of trust by engaging in sexual activities with one girl under 18, two counts with a second girl, and one count of indecency with a child. The incidents occurred at various locations such as his home, school premises, and a hotel, with one encounter happening inside a school cupboard, as revealed in court.
One of the victims testified, expressing how she felt “used and worthless” by Redmond, who also took the virginity of both girls. Despite denying the charges, Redmond was unanimously found guilty by the jury. Following the verdict, his legal representative, Ali Rafiti, requested a pre-sentence report, emphasizing Redmond’s prior good character.
Judge Robert Linford approved the report and granted Redmond bail until his sentencing on February 10. The judge acknowledged the jury’s dedication during the trial, spanning over the Christmas and New Year period. He expressed gratitude and offered excusal for jury duty in the next decade to those who participated.
