A young woman collapsed during a vacation with her friends in Magaluf after being injected with a date-rape drug. Taylor Coulter, an 18-year-old, went to the Spanish resort on June 16 to celebrate completing high school. Unfortunately, her holiday took a dark turn when a man purposely bumped into her at a nightclub and injected her with GHB, a common central nervous system depressant used for date rape.
Taylor, a player for Greenock Morton Women’s FC, immediately felt unwell and collapsed on the dancefloor at Bananas nightclub in Magaluf. She experienced vomiting and lost the ability to walk, talk, or see. Subsequently, Taylor was taken back to her hotel by her friends, and an ambulance was called along with her parents, Stuart and Alison Coulter.
After being rushed to the hospital, Taylor received treatment for GHB poisoning and had to undergo testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases due to the method of spiking. She was discharged the following day and reported the incident to Spanish authorities upon returning to Scotland. Feeling traumatized and anxious, Taylor highlighted the importance of staying vigilant in party resorts to prevent similar incidents.
Her father, Stuart, emphasized the need for heightened caution, noting that such dangers can affect anyone regardless of gender. Taylor’s plans for a football scholarship in the US have been significantly impacted by the Magaluf ordeal. She urged young people to remain cautious, stick together, and alert authorities if they suspect any form of spiking. The Foreign Office emphasized the risks associated with drink spiking abroad and the importance of updated travel advice to mitigate such dangers.
