An 18-year-old sex offender, Kai Edmundson, has been sentenced to jail for grooming a 14-year-old schoolgirl online and instructing her to carve his name into her neck. Edmundson, residing in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, engaged with the victim through various social media platforms without ever meeting her in person.
The predator sent the young girl up to five inappropriate images of children and directed her to a website containing explicit content of children as young as four. Additionally, he coerced the victim into sending him explicit images of herself and encouraged self-harm and unhealthy behaviors.
Their disturbing conversations lasted four months until the authorities intervened following a report of inappropriate contact. Investigations revealed incriminating conversations on Discord, and physical evidence of the victim complying with Edmundson’s demands was found on her neck.
Edmundson was arrested by Lancashire Police East’s Internet Child Exploitation Team on April 1 after indecent images of children were discovered on his phone. Charged with various offenses, including engaging in sexual communication with a child and possessing indecent images, he pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to five years and three months in custody. He was also placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
DS Nicholas Barker emphasized the serious threat posed by Edmundson’s online activities and praised the victim for her courage throughout the legal process. The police are committed to protecting children from online predators and urge parents and children to remain vigilant.
