A tragic incident occurred as a young male lost his life in a fire that erupted near a fire station. The fire broke out at a flat on Cooper’s Road in Southwark, located in the southern part of London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that the blaze occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters from four stations, including Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell, and Whitechapel, along with 25 firefighters, responded to the fire in a six-story building adjacent to the Old Kent Road Fire Station.
Upon the arrival of the fire service just before 3 pm, one teenage boy managed to escape the property and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, another teenager perished at the scene. The fire was successfully extinguished by around 4:30 pm. Additionally, a 64-meter turntable ladder from the Old Kent Road Fire Station arrived within six minutes of the emergency call. The LFB spokesperson mentioned that another fire appliance from the same station had initially responded to a different incident but later returned to the scene.
The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the LFB’s Fire Investigation Unit in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police.
