When Matheryn Naovaratpong fell seriously ill as a child, her parents were determined to do everything possible to save her life. Matheryn, also known as Einz, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer shortly after turning two. Despite undergoing numerous surgeries, chemotherapy sessions, and radiation treatments, her condition worsened, leading to her passing at home just before her third birthday.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Einz’s parents, Sahatorn and Nareerat Naovaratpong, decided to have her head and brain cryogenically frozen after her death, hoping that future scientific advancements would allow her a chance at a new life. The family’s journey, including their decision and the process of cryopreservation, was documented in the award-winning 2019 film “Hope Frozen.”
The Naovaratpongs, who reside in Thailand, believe in the potential of science to revive Einz’s brain and offer her a second opportunity at life. They view cryonics as a way to utilize technology for life beyond death, drawing on their faith in scientific progress. Despite the uncertainties surrounding the timeline for such advancements, they remain optimistic about the possibility of Einz’s revival in the future.
While initially hesitant about the cryonics plan, the family eventually embraced the idea as Einz’s health declined. Following her passing, a team from the US swiftly initiated the cryopreservation process, ensuring that her body was preserved without damage. Einz’s brain is currently stored at a constant temperature of minus 196 °C in Arizona, USA.
Although Sahatorn and Nareerat plan to have their own bodies preserved, they acknowledge the slim chance of reuniting with their daughter in the future. Despite their grief, they continue to cherish Einz’s memory and remain hopeful for a potential reunion through the advancements of science.
