Tiger Woods has declared a hiatus from golf following a recent back surgery in October. The American athlete underwent a procedure to replace a disc in his spine, marking his seventh back surgery and third major operation in the past two years, including surgeries on his Achilles and ankle.
Despite his previous success, notably winning the Masters in 2019 after an 11-year gap without a major title, Woods has been hampered by ongoing injuries, preventing him from being competitive in recent years.
Although Woods managed to attend the Bahamas to host his annual Hero World Challenge golf tournament, he acknowledges that he faces a long road to recovery before returning to professional play. Jokingly mentioning playing numerous events, he quickly shifted to a more serious tone, emphasizing the need to focus on rehabilitation and gradual progress before determining his future schedule and level of commitment.
Having recently received clearance to resume chipping and putting activities, Woods remains cautious in his recovery process, emphasizing the importance of allowing time for the disc replacement to properly heal before intensifying his training regimen.
One of Woods’ major driving forces could be achieving a historic PGA record, as he is currently tied with golf legend Sam Snead for the most PGA tournament wins at 82 victories. Notah Begay III, a close friend of Woods, highlighted the physical challenges Woods faces in simply navigating the golf course post-surgeries, indicating a significant hurdle in his potential comeback.
