TikTok Influencer Faces Firing Squad in Dubai

Date:

A British TikTok influencer is facing potential execution by firing squad in Dubai for the alleged murder of another Brit whom she met online. Brooke George, 23, is currently detained in Dubai and is claiming self-defense, stating that she was defending herself against repeated assaults by the victim, Bill Treeby, 26.

Before the fatal incident, Treeby had a criminal record, having been previously convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault in December 2023 at Maidstone Crown Court. He received a suspended prison sentence for attacking a woman and a man. Additionally, Treeby was awaiting trial for drug-related charges after being arrested in March 2024 for alleged involvement in a cocaine supply conspiracy.

According to reports, George, a former John Lewis shop assistant with a substantial TikTok following, traveled to the UAE to meet Treeby after connecting on social media. Their encounter took a tragic turn, resulting in George being detained in the notorious Bur Dubai police station.

George claimed that during her second visit to Dubai, Treeby became aggressive, taking her passport and physically harming her. In the midst of a confrontation, she defended herself with a kitchen knife before attempting to flee the country. However, she was apprehended at Dubai International Airport and arrested.

Following her arrest, George alleged mistreatment by authorities, including being denied legal representation and subjected to a humiliating search. Her mother expressed deep concern for her daughter’s well-being, emphasizing George’s distress and fear during the ordeal.

Karen, Treeby’s widow, mourned the loss of her husband and described him as a beloved family member on social media. Meanwhile, advocacy groups are calling for George to be released on bail and for authorities to investigate the incident as a case of domestic abuse.

The Foreign Office confirmed they are providing assistance to the detained British woman and are in communication with local officials. The situation highlights concerns about the treatment of women in Dubai, with calls for greater protection for individuals lured to the city under false pretenses.
