Toddler Falls on TUI Cruise Ship in Madeira

Date:

A child, aged two, experienced a fall aboard a TUI Cruises vessel in Madeira. The toddler, identified as a foreign national traveling with parents, received immediate medical attention on-site before being taken to a hospital. The incident occurred this morning while the cruise ship was stationed in Funchal, Madeira. Reports indicate the child fell from a height of approximately 10 to 13 feet, and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

The vessel involved is the Mein Schiff 7, a modern addition to the TUI fleet with a capacity for nearly 3,000 passengers. Currently, the ship is on a seven-day voyage that commenced in Gran Canaria on April 20 and is scheduled to conclude back on the same island next Monday.

TUI confirmed that the child is in hospital for standard observation and is in stable condition. An internal inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident. Following the distress call, Red Cross personnel and a rapid intervention medical team were deployed.

Port authorities in Funchal announced the arrival of two cruise ships, including Mein Schiff 7, with a total of around 4,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members. The ship arrived from Las Palmas and will depart for La Palma as part of its one-week Cruise Atlantic Islands itinerary. This marks its final stop in Madeira for the season, with a return planned for November.

Authorities managing the ports in Madeira verified that a child was taken to Dr. Nelio Mendonca Hospital in Funchal after an onboard incident while the cruise ship was docked. No specific details regarding the child’s age, nationality, or the nature of the incident were disclosed.

In a statement, the Administration of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira reported the activation of the Regional Integrated Medical Emergency System. The child was assessed on-site by the Rapid Intervention Medical Team and subsequently transported to the hospital’s A&E department for further care.
