Tragedy at ‘Skeleton Bridge’: Woman Falls to Death in Bungee Mishap

Date:

A 21-year-old woman met a tragic end over the weekend when she fell 130 feet into a ravine during a bungee jumping incident at ‘Skeleton Bridge’ in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. The woman, identified as Maria Eduardo Rodrigues de Freitas, was not properly secured with a safety cord before being pushed off the platform by staff, leading to her fatal plunge.

Before the accident, a social media post by Maria has surfaced, where she shared her location at the bungee jumping site from the nearby town of Jandira. In a heartbreaking Instagram post just moments before the incident, she humorously questioned who allowed her to take the leap off the bridge.

Following the incident, two men fled the scene but were later apprehended in a nearby wooded area with the help of local authorities. Six individuals, including three men aged 27, 32, and 42, were brought in for questioning in connection with the tragic incident. The three men were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide with implied malice.

The Civil Police are currently investigating the case to determine if any criminal charges will be filed against those involved in the bungee jumping event. The Limeira City Council expressed intentions to file a complaint against the Brazilian federal government for failing to address known safety risks at the site.

Limeira Mayor Murilo Félix emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for the lack of safety measures at the federal area where the incident occurred, stressing the need for adequate protection measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
