An Air Canada plane crash at New York’s LaGuardia Airport claimed the lives of two pilots and injured multiple others after colliding with a fire engine on the taxiway. The incident involved a Jazz Aviation flight operated for Air Canada, with 72 passengers and four crew members on board. Despite the controller’s repeated warnings to stop, the collision occurred, resulting in 41 individuals being hospitalized. Fortunately, all but nine have been discharged.
During the aftermath, a flight attendant was discovered still secured to her seat, with responders able to safely evacuate passengers through the rear exit. The crash caused the fire engine’s officers to be thrown from the vehicle upon impact with the aircraft. The tragic event unfolded as the fire engine was en route to address an issue on a United Airlines flight involving an odor reported by the pilot.
In a frantic radio transmission moments before the crash, the air traffic controller urgently tried to halt the approaching vehicle, emphasizing the need to stop multiple times.
