A young girl, nine years old, tragically passed away from a single stab wound to her chest at her residence, as revealed during an initial inquest proceeding.
The incident occurred in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, where paramedics pronounced the girl, identified as Aria Thorpe, deceased at 6:58 pm on December 15. Coroner’s officer Andrew Eastwood confirmed the cause of death as a chest stab wound.
Dr. Peter Harrowing, the area coroner for Avon, instructed that the complete post-mortem report be submitted by February 16. He identified the involved parties as Aria’s family and the suspected perpetrator but indicated that due to ongoing proceedings, the matter would not be immediately scheduled for an inquest but rather for a review on April 10.
The review session, clarified by Dr. Harrowing, would not constitute a formal court hearing, and any future coronial actions would be contingent on the progress of police investigations or legal proceedings.
A 15-year-old boy, whose identity remains protected due to his minor status, had previously appeared before Bristol Crown Court on charges related to Aria’s tragic death.
Judge Peter Blair KC, presiding as the Recorder of Bristol, tentatively set a trial date for June 15 this year, anticipated to span two weeks. Law enforcement from Avon and Somerset responded to the Mead Vale area following a distress call from paramedics on the day of the incident.
In heartfelt tributes following her untimely passing, Aria’s father, Tom Thorpe, reminisced about her joyful and affectionate nature, recalling cherished family moments and her vibrant spirit.
Similarly, Aria’s maternal family described her as a radiant, music-loving child with a penchant for dressing up and emulating her mother. They expressed profound grief over the loss and gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and the local community.
