Tragic Death of Bright 12-Year-Old Amelia

Date:

A young girl described as “bright” and “loving” was tragically discovered deceased at her residence, according to details presented in a coroner’s court. The girl, identified as Amelia Bath, aged 12, passed away on March 6 at her home on Yapton Lane in Walberton, West Sussex.

During an inquest at West Sussex Coroner’s Court in Horsham, Area Coroner Joseph Turner characterized the circumstances surrounding Amelia’s death as “unnatural.” A statement from a coroner’s officer revealed that she was found deceased at her home due to hanging.

Following the shocking incident, Amelia’s uncle, Kris Marsh, expressed deep surprise and sorrow, stating that her sudden death had a profound impact on everyone. He recounted the devastating moment when Amelia’s mother, Marie, discovered her lifeless body in the bedroom while trying to wake her up for school.

To assist with funeral expenses, Amelia’s aunt, Lisa Marsh, initiated an online fundraising campaign on GoFundMe. The collected funds will also be contributed to Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice serving Sussex, Brighton, and South East Hampshire, in memory of Amelia.

According to information shared by Ms. Marsh with the Daily Mail, Amelia had spent the evening before her passing joyfully with family, enjoying fish and chips. However, it was later revealed that she had faced bullying on Snapchat in the weeks leading up to her death.

In a heartfelt tribute on the fundraiser page, Ms. Marsh honored her “beautiful niece,” describing Amelia as a radiant, humorous, kind-hearted, and affectionate individual who brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. She lamented the immense loss and the unbearable silence left behind by Amelia’s departure, emphasizing the enduring impact of her absence on their lives.

Acknowledging the support received, Ms. Marsh expressed gratitude for any contributions made towards the cause, highlighting the significance of every donation, kind gesture, and act of support in coping with their profound grief.

A spokesperson from Sussex Police confirmed that the circumstances surrounding Amelia’s death were under review and not considered suspicious. Collaborative efforts with schools and partner agencies were mentioned to provide support to the affected family and individuals. The inquest proceedings were adjourned until a pre-inquest review scheduled for June 17.
