Police are conducting an investigation following the tragic death of a woman on the M6 near Wigan. The motorway was shut down for several hours earlier today as authorities responded to a welfare concern at Downall Green Road bridge over the southbound lane in the morning. Despite emergency services’ quick arrival, the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Formal identification is pending, as confirmed by Greater Manchester Police, who stated no suspicious circumstances are suspected in the woman’s passing. The M6 was reopened around 4 pm after the extended closure.
An official police inquiry has been initiated, urging any witnesses or individuals involved in the incident, which occurred just before 8 am, to come forward. This includes those who may have seen the incident, encountered an obstruction on the road at that location, or possess dashcam/CCTV footage of the event.
