Following reports of a 17-year-old boy struggling in a Lake District tarn, a body has been found during the search operation.
Cumbria Police received information on Tuesday afternoon about an individual in distress at High Dam Tarn near Windermere. A coordinated rescue effort involving Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, and local mountain rescue teams was immediately initiated. The public was advised to steer clear of the area while the search was in progress.
On Tuesday evening, authorities confirmed the discovery of a body, ruling out any suspicion surrounding the death.
Superintendent Patrick O’Hara expressed condolences on behalf of the rescue team to the family and friends of the deceased, who are receiving support from detectives. O’Hara also acknowledged the assistance provided by local farmers in transporting first responders and equipment across challenging terrain during the operation.
Law enforcement had been alerted by a member of the public at 12:32pm regarding the individual in distress at High Dam Tarn.
A joint rescue effort was subsequently launched involving various agencies such as Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, and local Mountain Rescue Teams, as the search for the missing 17-year-old continued with shoreline, surface, and sub-surface operations.
High Dam, a man-made tarn popular among hikers and tourists in the Lake District, was the location of the tragic incident.
