“Tragic Explosion at Illegal Fireworks Factory Kills Worker”

Date:

Startling new video footage reveals the aftermath following a tragic explosion at an illicit fireworks factory.

A fatal incident occurred at the facility this morning in central Thailand, resulting in the death of one worker and serious injuries to three others. The factory, operating with an expired license, was engulfed in flames while workers were reportedly producing pyrotechnics for the upcoming Lunar New Year. The explosion occurred in Suphanburi province, approximately 70 miles north of Bangkok, at 7.52 am local time (11.52 pm GMT), destroying the predominantly wooden structure.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the deceased worker, Saneh Thongsrilang, aged 58. Three other individuals, Chaiya Kaewboondee (38), Wiroj Plerdplern (58), and Amnat Phophan (49), sustained critical injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Footage from the location exhibits charred remnants scattered throughout the area, leaving only the wooden framework and supporting columns intact. Authorities are currently investigating the explosion’s cause and have initiated inquiries with the building’s owner.

A cautionary message issued by emergency services in Suphan Buri on social media urged local residents to clear the way for rescue operations following the fireworks explosion in Ban Dong Kra Chao, Rai Rot subdistrict.

Subsequent updates confirmed the containment of the fire, with no damage reported to the nearby Dong Krachao Buddhist temple. Expressing concerns over the safety hazards associated with fireworks production in the region, a resident emphasized the importance of ending such activities to safeguard the workers and owners.

Illegal fireworks factory explosions have been a persistent issue in Thailand due to inadequate safety regulations enforcement, a thriving underground economy, and limited resources in rural areas. In a recent incident in Suphanburi, nine individuals lost their lives, and five suffered injuries following an explosion at an unlicensed fireworks factory. Similarly, an explosion in Narathiwat province in 2023 claimed the lives of at least 12 people, injured over 120 others, and caused extensive destruction to numerous homes and buildings.
