An elderly man passed away following an incident in which a revolving door at a hospital abruptly slowed down or halted, according to a coroner’s report. Geoffrey Maurice Walker, affectionately known as Geoff, lost his life on December 16 last year while his wife Irene was present. The 80-year-old retired printer had visited the Royal Blackburn Hospital for an outpatient appointment on November 20. Unfortunately, as he entered the facility, the revolving door at the main entrance unexpectedly slowed down or stopped, causing him to fall.
Geoff sustained severe fractures from the fall and was subsequently admitted to the hospital. During his hospitalization, he developed infections, leading to a decline in his pre-existing health conditions. The official cause of death was determined to be congestive cardiac failure and pneumonia, with influenza affecting his humerus and right inferior and superior pubic bones noted as contributing factors, as reported by LancsLive. Area coroner Kate Bisset explained that the incident occurred as he entered the building through the revolving door, resulting in the fall and subsequent injuries.
The coroner issued a narrative conclusion stating that Geoffrey Maurice Walker passed away at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on December 16, 2025. The report highlighted the series of events, from the fall and fractures to the development of infections and the worsening of his existing health issues, which collectively contributed to his demise. Geoff was described by his family as a beloved father, father-in-law, and grandad, with his loved ones expressing deep sorrow over his loss.
